Course Description

Module 1: In this module we’ll explore the language and frameworks at the heart of diagnostic practice. From terms like cultural competence and cultural humility to narrative therapy and reflexivity, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how these concepts shape our work as clinicians. We’ll also examine the realities of diagnosis—its challenges and opportunities—and how narrative therapy can help bridge the gap between structured diagnostic frameworks and the client’s lived experience. By shifting from a clinical tone to a narrative approach, this module empowers you to use language that respects cultural context, fosters collaboration, and honors each client’s unique story.

Module 2: In this module, you’ll take the next step in your journey by engaging in a hands-on, reflexive activity. Building on the foundational ideas from Module 1, this module guides you further through a worksheet designed to help you reframe clinical language into a narrative style that centers the client’s story. You’ll reflect on your diagnostic language, shift from a clinical tone to one that resonates with clients’ lived experiences, and practice integrating cultural humility and reflexivity into your communication. By the end of this exercise, you’ll be equipped to approach diagnosis in a way that empowers your clients and enhances therapeutic collaboration.
