Wellness, Weariness, and the Work of Staying Whole
(2 CE Hours)
Course Description
This course is a quiet rebellion against toxic productivity - the myth that helping others must come at the cost of your own humanity. Drawing from two open-access, peer-reviewed qualitative studies, this course reframes self-care as collective care and resilience as resistance to depletion.
Learners will explore how systemic burnout (nonstop crisis culture, moral injury, and structural scarcity) intertwines with intrapersonal burnout (empathy fatigue, perfectionism, and self-worth loops). This course provides a whole-person, whole-system understanding of why helpers break down—and what it takes to stay whole.
By the end of this 2-hour course, the mental health professional will be able to:
- Identify the multilevel contributors to burnout in mental-health and helping professions, from systemic injustice to intrapersonal over-identification.
- Differentiate between structural burnout (organizational and moral injury factors) and clinical burnout (empathy fatigue and detachment).
- Apply evidence-based coping frameworks—including supervision, reflective practice, embodied awareness, and collective care networks—to sustain wellness.
- Develop a personal and organizational action plan for sustainable therapeutic presence—showing up with integrity, energy, and wholeness.
