Course Description
Suicide intervention doesn’t pause when therapy goes virtual - and neither can your clinical skills. Beyond the Screen equips mental health professionals with the confidence, structure, and nuanced skill set needed to assess and intervene with suicidal clients entirely through telehealth. Grounded in cutting-edge research and real-world case examples, this course gives you a practical, evidence-based framework for recognizing warning signs on camera, administering structured suicide-risk assessments like the C-SSRS, building collaborative digital safety plans, and managing crises when the screen is your only point of contact.
Across four immersive modules, you’ll learn how to:
- Assess suicide risk over telehealth by noticing online cues, confirming client location, and using the C-SSRS to guide next steps.
- Respond in the moment with practical telehealth interventions—grounding, activating safety, and making clear decisions about level of risk and care.
- Create safety plans together on screen, including means safety, crisis resources, and clear follow-up, using shared digital tools clients can actually access.
- Use peer and group support in telehealth to increase connection, disclosure, and ongoing engagement, drawing on evidence-based and lived-experience approaches.
Through demonstrations, guided practice, screen-share tutorials, and crisis simulations, you’ll develop a telehealth toolkit designed to keep clients safe while protecting your clinical judgment, ethical boundaries, and documentation.
