(30 CE Hours)
Course Description
This course teaches supervision models from individual and systemic perspectives offering professionals insight💡into management of supervision experiences. The course focuses on the supervisor's 🛤️ path of professional development while still addressing the ethics, laws, and rules related to supervision practices. It also focuses on the art of supervision 🎨 and the core components necessary to ensure healthy clinical relationships. We will have fun (yes, FUN) with supervisory documentation, and you will have access to several digital downloads to help keep you focused and confident about what you are learning. The course addresses multicultural and cross-cultural issues that can impact supervision experiences for supervisors and supervisees. As always, our nerdiness 🤓 will show up in the course as we geek out over some of the best books, articles, and videos that will inspire you. Take a journey with our supervisor trainee and make decisions about how you want to incorporate your values and your passion 🔥into this next stage of your professional growth!

Meet Your Instructor
HELLO ALL YOU CAREER CRAFTERS!
You are on the precipice – RIGHT NOW! I mean really – who devotes 30 hours toward learning anything these days? If you're like me, it took you years to pick up an educational text after all your higher ed. experiences. But here you are – investing in yourself 🔥 and your career! You mean business.
I am Dr. MJ Rose and I have known many excellent supervisors! I have also known HORRIBLE 💩 supervisors. My site supervisor during my master’s program lost her license and had to pay an $8,000 fine because of eight major ethics violations. I mean, who thinks it's okay to discuss client treatment at their local restaurant? Not you - I'm sure!
It took me a long time to heal from that experience. In fact, at one point I thought I'd give up on counseling altogether. If counselors and supervisors could act so negligently, why would I be part of the profession?
But PASSION 🔥 ALWAYS WINS! We get into this profession because we want to help, right? RIGHT?
I had to unlearn the bad and focus on the good.
So, who showed up in my life at exactly the right time, but Mr. Perfect? No, not my husband. My husband is THE HANDSOME MAN ❤️.
NO JOKE! My next professional supervisor’s last name was actually PERFECT. He changed the way I understood counseling and the way I utilized supervision. He modeled how a knowledgeable, committed, and intentional supervisor invests in the professional development of others and creates change. He planted a 🌱seed.
I yearned to be that type of supervisor for others – so like you are doing right now – I worked to educate myself.
Together, we are going to step into clinical supervision with confidence so you can mentor with innovation, reduce liability, enhance learning, and stay true to your values. Here's how we are going to do this, in a nutshell:
Course Learning Objectives
- You will differentiate between counseling and supervision.
- You'll choose one or more models of supervision to practice and apply.
- You will describe supervisee and supervisor factors that impact the relationship.
- Learning the four dimensions that cut across multicultural issues, you'll evaluate how they might impact cross-cultural supervision experiences.
- You'll get organized with essential tasks that lead to supervision success.
- Relying on research, self-reflection, and supervisee qualities, you'll apply various interventions to case conceptualizations.
- Then, you will compare benefits and limitations of individual, triadic, and group, supervision sessions.
- And you'll focus on you by learning the conceptual and structural aids that will increase your confidence and competence with evaluation practices.
- You'll evaluate the supervisory laws, rules, and codes of your state and national associations.
- Then you'll dive into the differences between live and remote clinical supervision, as your plan for ethical use of telehealth platforms.
And you are not going to be alone. NOPE. You are going to meet Liam, a licensed professional counselor eager to improve his marketability and expand his professional identity by becoming a supervisor. Like Liam, you will have AGENCY during this course, choosing a learning path that makes sense to you and makes sense of YOUR EXPERIENCE.
At the end of each module, you'll take a brief quiz (yep, this is how you earn CE credit) - but don't worry - you can do hard things! 🛤️ At The Counselor Edge, LLC, we believe the way you learn the best is by your own self-reflection, so there's not a cumulative final in this course. We are into breaking the mold, not your spirit! ❤️
Instead, there are many self-reflection exercises along the way, and I encourage you to take the time to work through them. They are designed to help you grow 🌱, to build insight 💡, and to inspire 🔥 you.
Are you ready to craft bridges over clinical crossroads and be the best supervisor you can be?
Let's do this together!
